CONSERVE ECOLOGICAL DIVERSITY

In the past decades, More than 1 million species of animals and plants have been threatened with extinction, and 75% of the land-based environment and about 66% of the marine environment have been significantly altered by human actions. Around 32% of global landscapes are under local community custodianship, and 91% of these lands are considered still to be in good or fair ecological condition. Provide evidence that local communities’ contributions and engagement are critical to conserving biodiversity. GEI and many regional partners have invested in community-based conservation works and successfully demonstrated that this “bottom-up” approach is effective in protecting biological diversity.
