EXPLORE INCLUSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT
In recent decades, Southeast Asian countries have experienced a remarkable influx of foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly in large-scale development ventures such as mining, hydropower, agriculture, and infrastructure construction. While these projects promise economic growth and development, they often come at a significant cost to the local environment, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of communities residing in affected areas.
The rise of China as a prominent investor and trading partner in the region has heightened concerns regarding the sustainability and social responsibility of such investments. One of the key challenges exacerbating tensions and conflicts surrounding these projects is the lack of effective communication and dialogue between Chinese stakeholders and local people.
Thus, we establish a dedicated working group to facilitate collaboration between local stakeholders and the Chinese private sector. This working group will serve as a dynamic platform for capacity building, communication, and networking efforts within each country and across the region.
